Australian Year of the Farmer
We are very excited to announce that the Donnybrook Apple Festival is a proud supporter of the Australian Year of the Farmer National Roadshow.
The National Roadshow will be a celebration of Australian farmers and produce. It will entertain and educate all Australians - metropolitan, rural and regional; delivering key messages supporting the Year’s objectives and tagline, “Our Farmers. Our Future.”
The Roadshow exhibits will contain a wealth of material supplied by our Foundation Partners,Sponsors and Proud Supporters. The units will be attended by some of our AYOF Ambassadors, industry leaders, celebrities and local identities who will “meet and greet”, interacting with the general public about the Year of the Farmer.
A significant element of the Roadshow exhibit is the mini-Archibull children’s painting competition, a concept developed upon Art4Agriculture’s education program known as the Archibull Prize. Together, AYOF and Art4Agriculture will roll out a national schools’ campaign, for the Archibull Prize 2012. The aim of the Archibull Prize is to reach the next generation of consumers and rural producers through schools, and together to build trust and confidence in modern Australian farm production systems. The mini-Archibull competition will promote awareness of the schools’ program, and provide a fun activity for children to participate in, at the Roadshow events.
AYOF is a vital awareness campaign, which aims to enhance the connection between urban consumers with producers, helping all Australian to understand what farmers do, and the impact this has on all of our lives. AYOF allows us to celebrate the magnificent contribution farmers make to the Australian economy and showcase how they are world leaders in their own right, through production of the highest quality produce, innovation in farming techniques, and delivering sustainability through best practice management of their environment.
The exhibit will be at the Apple Festival, Easter, 7th & 8th April, 2012, with activities & events.
